Ok, I have an '82 K5 with the 6.2L diesel, it had the 700r in it and I swapped in a new flywheel along with my SM465 and after I got everything in, I went to start it and the starter grinds the flywheel. I noticed the old flexplate has lil notches for the teeth of the starter to slip in. The flywheel doesn't have that so the starter won't mesh with the flywheel. I tried every combination of shims from .000 to .140. Nothing worked. Would there be a different starter I should use or what?

Thanks.

Did you swap out the starters? Sounds to me the the flexplate and the flywheel have different number to "teeth"

for what it's worth, i did the same swap (700 to 465) and i didn't have this problem with the starter.

edit: mine is also a diesel.
