getting ready to call Jesse tomorrow for a new front driveshaft. 
he said to measure from center of u joint to center of u-joint. My old front drive shaft is long gone. I measured from center stud to center stud (the big stud that has a nut on it located at transfer case and front end) and got 30-1/2 ". from the center of the bearing cap retainer on either end i got 30-1/4".
Sound about right?

the measurments on mine is 51 1/4 inches, imagine that! 
yes that means under 18 inches between rear of T case and front of rear axle
