I got a new holley mechanical fuel pump and its just got 1 inlet and 1 outlet, the stock pump has 1 inlet, 1 outlet and 1 return line. can I split the outlet to the carb and run it to the return line and be fine, I've also seen a metal fuel filter that has a return line to.

What carb are you running?

Regardless, your carb is very sensitive to the fuel pressure that supplies it. If you are going to an aftermarket pump, a fuel pressure regulator may be in order anyway.

Return lines keep the fuel cool but aren't absolutely necessary.

Make sure your fuel pump is as close to the tank as possible, keep fuel lines far away from hot things (or shield them) and make sure your fuel pressure is right for your carb (I run ~3 psi on my Q-jet).

I have a rebuilt Q-Jet on the motor, the psi range for the pump is 5 to 7.5. I was thinking that the pump might not supply enough fuel to the carb if I split it, and that the fuel would circulate more. I don't want to just block off the return line because of the benefits of having it.

When my MFP went out I just ran to Kragen and they had one in stock that was perfect...bolted right up (after I got that retarded rod pushed up :)) and all the lines fit perfect...

cant you just plug the return line? i got a 95 s10 with a small block and im running a fuel pump just like you said i think its off a 80 capriece. going on 2 years with this truck, no problems

You can, but he wants to make sure his fuel doesn't get hot and vapor lock, which is what the return line is for.

I'd just get another pump if it were me.

I think I'm just going to return it and get my money back, and buy a stocker.
It's not really a built motor. I realy liked the fact that you can could rotate the bottom of the pump 360 deg.
