I've been looking for a new gas tank for the blazer for when i do my tbi swap. I've read lots of good things about NWMP (North west metal products?) but i get an error when i try to go to their site. Are they out of business or is there website just down? Any other good aftermarket tanks? I saw the ones on lmc but I wonder about quality also my blazer is an 85 but with the lmc tank I think i need the 87-91 and also the sending unit (3 outlet or 4?). They list the sending unit for under $100 which in my past experience with fuel pumps means its junk. Does anyone have any experience with the lmc tanks/sending units?
My other idea is just looking for a regular aftermarket fuel cell as the current tank seems pretty square on bottom but i cant really see the top. My concern with this is im worried the max size wouldn't be that big, and at 10mpg id like to keep the tank at at least 30 gallons.

I bought 2 gas tanks from LMC about 6 years ago. Two, because my truck had dual 16 gal. "saddle tanks". They worked fine. The senders worked fine too. No experience with their fuel pumps though. I'd get an AC Delco fuel pump, if I were you.

Two years ago, I sold my dual tanks and put in a Blazer tank instead. I bought it from www.MTScompany.com Its a polyethylene tank and its 31 gallons. I'm happy with it. They sell the sending units and pumps as well.

Do you remember how much it cost you? I fond it on there site but nothing had prices. Did you have to call them to order it?

I'm in the market for a gas tank too and emailed NWMP they told me they sold that part of the company to Sunset Metal Fab they are making the same line of products the part number for a 43 gallon replacement tank for 73-91 blazer is CBR-2 Owners name is Chuck Phone # 503-429-0895 Haven't got the price yet but will get back when i get it

I run two ’87 TBI tanks on my K10. The first tank I bought from LMC back in 2008 when I did the L18 swap, which I thought was a pretty nice tank. Just a few weeks ago I replaced the original RH tank with an ’87 TBI tank as well but this time I got it from Napa. Hell, not only was the tank a bit cheaper (by the time you add in the LMC freight), the Napa tank is considerably thicker and just better made plus it was manufactured in Canada…..not China or Taiwan like the typical LMC stuff. The Napa tank also looks to be galvanized rather than just coated. The Napa part number for a TBI K5 is GM14C (31 gallons) and looks to be around $144 - $250 (depending how big of wh0re your local Napa dealer is). If you need new straps the tank straps is Napa part number ST11. I highly recommend the Canuck Napa fuel tanks over LMC any day and twice over a fuel cell. Same with the sending unit, get a Napa sending unit then an AC Delco fuel pump.

This is the LMC ’87 TBI fuel tank I used back in 2008 on the driver’s side. It just looks to be painted or covered in some cheapass material the usual LMC way

This is a crappy picture of the much better Napa ’87 TBI fuel tank that I installed on the passenger’s side yesterday. I am tempted to order another and replace the driver’s tank with this much higher quality Napa tank :dunno:

The 31 gallon tank was $165
Sending Unit was $79
Straps were $37 for the pair

That was a while ago (2009), so prices may have changed since then. Send them an email and they can get you current prices. They were very nice and easy to work with. Yes, I think I had to call them and give them my CC over the phone to place the order. I don't think they have online ordering.

The tanks are made in the USA, and so are the straps. Not sure where the sending units are made.

Also, you'll notice that there are 2 different 31 gallon tanks you can get. The difference is the size of the fuel filler inlet. Make sure you get the right one! :deal:

Some other things came up so a new tank will have to wait. However i already swapped motors last weekend. Everything is ready just waiting on fuel. Its not my dd but i do need to drive it about twice a week to pull a trailer. So im thinking an inline pump. It will only be in there for a coupl months so its not a big deal if i have to keep the tank full since its not baffled. don't care about noise just want it to be reliable.

Hehe, yeah......you can always count on me for truck porn. :waytogo:

I think the filler neck size difference is the difference between a carb tank and EFI tank. Both of the tanks I used required a new filler neck hose due to the EFI tanks being larger (1¾...I think).

Reliability and frame mount fuel pumps do not go along in the same sentence, no matter how much you pay for a high dollar frame mount pump. I’ve used frame mount pumps twice on projects and they were never reliable. My buddies that have used them on other projects had the same results…use a frame mount pump then 2 months later change to a in tank pump with a tried and true AC Delco fuel pump. That is the entire reason I went with ’87 tanks with an in tank pump in the first place because of reliability and noise of the frame mount pumps. Save up and do it right with a new tank and in tank fuel pump.

More picture porn….

When my K10 had an EFI L29 454 it briefly used a frame mount pump tucked up behind a crossmember. It had a habit of not starting after you turn the truck off after a long drive. Ditched it for an in tank pump and have never had a problem in 6 years and 30,000 miles.

Then my old ’72 C20 beater truck TBI 5.7L/700R7 swap project I used a frame mount pump that was sucktastic as well. The pump worked fine for 5 months then crapped out. Replaced it again with a warranty pump from Summit then sold the truck. Not even a year later the guy I sold the truck too popped up in my email one day looking to find out what brand of fuel pump was on the truck so he could order another as it failed again. I believe that one was a WABLRO pump. The only thing good I could say about the WALBRO was the fact it was quiet. Especially when it died :haha:

Yea the stories about frame mount pumps seem pretty consistent. Ill go with a cheaper one and i should be able to upgrade to a new tank with intanke pump within yhe next month. You have a part number for the napa tank?

Haha must have read right over that. I think ill go with the napa tank and ac delco intank pump.

Thanks to everyone for all your help. Sometimes its nice to learn from other peoples mistakes lol

Canadian tanks are Spectra I'm pretty sure, since that's who made the tank I bought, which was Canadian.

This thread isn't too old: http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=310992&highlight=tank

I'm going to ask in that thread about the baffles in the new Spectra tank though, the old ones sucked IMO, and I read elsewhere that they had changed them to a better design.
