I just bought a direct replacement engine (350) for my 89 Jimmy and was looking at some kits that Jegs has for the TBI. They show a complete kit with TBI carb, intake, and thermostat the kit # is Edelbrock 3704K3. Anyone know if they are any good and what kind of power they add? Do you need a reprogram on your PROM? I know this engine is very limited but want to add a little HP and maybe some gas milage to it as cheap as I can.

WAY to much money there in that kit.

intake has been talked about. most guys dont see any improvemnet from that over stock.

and the tbi is NOT a bolt on and go. you need chip tunning to work correctly others have said.

and adjustable fuel pressure = need a gauge to know what your getting.

best bolt on performance is full exaust.

shorty bolt on replacement headers for stock manifolds . then custom made 2.5" down pipes to flowmaster http://www.summitracing.com/search/...r-Scavenger-Series-Y-Collectors/?autoview=SKU 250300 unit and good high flow 3" cat and single 3" muffler.

you will pickup 30-40 hp at the wheels from this alone.

there is a injection section here on this site for all info to fuel injection tweeking and mods.

good luck. :D

Thanks for reply sweetK30! I think I will stay with the duel exhaust with headers. What about Jet chips, any gains with these chips? Stage 1 or 2?

waste of time and to much money for what thay give.

do some reading in our injection section on chip tunning and performance mods to get a better bang for the buck.

I'm not trying to be too nosey, but did you get the engine through GM ? How much $$ ? Looking at doing this myself soon.

Eric1668, I got the engine frome JEGS, it is a GM performance Crate engine # 12568758. bone stock, but brand new...not a reman, and a 3 year 100K warranty. it was about $1750 with shipping. you just put on your intake, accessories, and exhaust and are ready to go. I needed cheap more than HP, not much HP in these engines, this one listed 200HP and 300lbs tq at i think 3000RPM.

The warranty will require a new radiator or proof of rebuild, and a new water pump. You have to read it to find it. Just a heads up.

Cheap is definitely what I'll be looking for as well! Thanks.

I did the chip after buying a GM crate motor, no change that I could see.

That's a decent price for an engine to just swap out and be done and running in a day.

Got the Jimmy back on the road! I put headers and true duals with no cats(still ok in this state we have no inspections). Makes more power than i had. Runs great! Thanks everyone for the input!

Agreed. Just picked up the SBC replacement from JEGS ($1499), took advantage of the free shipping special. Very pleased with the engine I received, rated at 260hp 350 lb/ft (although I have been told these engines tend to be very underrated). Putting in a Comp Xtreme 4x4 cam and a few other things. We'll see how it runs in a couple weeks!
