This sounds like a miserable solution for a dual-purpose rig......

I guess I'm back to my old strategy instead.

Couldn't get get a manual/automatic VB? I don't think any of them have compression braking but you could still put it in drive and cruise...I don't know if it still uses full line pressure when it's in automatic mode though.

dual purpose? bah! I don't wanna wheel something street legal (with this states laws anyway!)... so hard shifts are a-ok.
