New hat

Those are really great looking helmets and besides having all the features their light weight too. The problem is that for a hobbyist welder like myself, the price is prohibitive. I'd love to have even the cheapest Miller but they dont have the large view I'd like to have because I wear glasses.
 
It so happens that I'm taking a welding III class at the community college and I asked around about this helmet and two people have seen and would use this helmet if they werent hopeful career welders and bought Millers.

I just bought it and will let you know what I think of it.

I have been very happy with the helmet from lowes I got for christmas. Its there kobalt brand. Autodarkening, wide screen, solar powered. I believe there around 100. Been through 3 small rolls of wire with it so far.
 
My bud was happy with one of the auto darks he got from Harbor Frieght, for welding class atleast. He has a Miller now though.
 
X eleventy billion on the miller, BUT, if you dont use it regularily go for the cheaper one, then when you wear that one out, buy the miller!:D
 
I have the wide view autodark from Harbor freight. The welding class i was in actually went and bought a bunch of them....and liked them. Well, at least better than teh small window name brand ones they had for us.

I've used mine a little, and its been fine. Yes, its based on your use, and you get what you pay for....but on something like this, for occasional welding, i think the cheap one will be ok for a while.
 
So I've been sick and didn't have time to follow through with the purchase of the helmet. Actually thought for a second that was a good thing because at 7:23am I got an email from Northern saying the helmet was $84.00! When I went to order 7:42, they were mysteriously out of stock on that helmet which was no longer being stocked and can sell me the replacement model - oh but wait -it's out of stock until MARCH, and oh also it's not $84.00 the new model is $139. What a freaking scam. Why can't people just stock and sell stuff for a reasonable price without trying to "upgrade" ****.

I have teh blue flame one. Also, you can often get large discounts in person if you are on their email list. I'll forward you the coupon i just got if you want, pm me.

Edit, i lied. It expired. But they were emailing/mailing out 15% coupons, but they only work in person. If you are going to go to a store, and don't need it immediately....get on their email list and wait for a coupon.
 
Thanks I appreciate the effort. I like that helmet and the specs are good, I really had my heart set on a 3 7/8 x 2 3/8 view but I guess beggars can't be choosers.
 
If you get on thier email list, HF will send you misc coupons weekly and usually a 15% off one item coupon every month.

Thats what i paid. If you don't like it, you can always return it.
 
I have been using the HF Blue Flame helmet for over 2 years now with no problems at all. Now granted I don't weld all the time, but I have probably been through at least 15lbs of wire in my HF 110 mig welder. If my helmet gets broken I will probably buy another of the same one.
