I am installing a new head unit. Where should the head unit's positive power cable connect to? Fuse block, junction block on the fire wall or straight to the battery? Negative cable should be grounded short as possible right? Accesory cable goes to the fuse block... right?

Everything else is easy.

p.s. previously posted this in Audio section. Reposted here as it has only had two views in the last hour and I want to install it this morning. Can a Mod delete the other post?

Thanks!

Is your factory stereo connectors still there or did the PO do away with them. If it's still intact make a run to walmart or any stereo place and get yourself one of these. All you'll have to do is run a constant hot wire (the yellow one)

Trust me it saves yourself alot of trouble plus you keep the factory plugs. I just did one in my truck also. not sure where you're going with yours but this is mine nearly finished

PO put in an Blaupunkt stereo which is partially dead and the Pioneer 5900 I picked up is phenominal in comparison. I was checking out the wiring setup and factory harness(es) are gone. power/ground spliced into what appears to be the old power/gound wires... Is this okay with a higher power head unit?

My initial questions was pertaining should run the power cables with a new wire and where to terminate the connection at? Fusebox versus junction block versus straight to the battery.

P.s. I just checked again and the PO spliced the radio's yellow (postive) into the brake switch (orange) wire. Which I am assuming is constant power, since the brake lights work when the truck is off. To me that seems ludricrous to splice the radio's power line into another line, especially that of a different size gauge.

there really is no need to go straight to the battery, fuseblock or old wires are fine. just make sure that the PO did not splice any other wires off the 12v/acc lines that were dedicated to the radio. The factory fuses should be fine as long as it is not powering anything else....

personally, i would take the constant hot off of any light circuit, try the cig lighter..if not, take it to firewall

I use a power inverter occassionally and sometimes the male plug gets a wee bit hot. I am planning on tapping into the tail/courtesy lamp fuse on the fuse block.

Thanks for all the input.

I have the constant and the switched power going into the fuse block. Only trouble was mine being 24v start required carefully finding the 12v fuse openings and also finding the fuse taps that most auto parts places don't seem to carry anymore...
