Just purchased a 1984 M1028 for 2100.00 with 60K on odo. I drove it home from Gridley Ca, to San Jose without any issues. Been using it for about a month now with no problems at all. Starts on first blip form the starter, no smoke, idles nicely.. Anyone who doesn't know, these trucks come factory with only idiot lights, which I despise.

A week ago while driving it up and around some hilly area I noticed the low coolant light came on. I stopped, got out and noticed that the entire drivers side of the truck was wet with coolant. I popped the hood and noticed I noticed a small leak from the radiator cap. I replaced the cap with a 16 lb cap. After starting the truck and checking everything out I noticed a large amount of bubbles in the overflow tank. I guess the system was burping fluid.

Some quick searching yielded me possible results of a head gasket leak. So I went down and purchased a head gasket leak down test kit. the guy that sold it said it was idiot proof. After following the directions and allowing the bubbles to go up through the fluid(which should turn yellow if there is a detected diesel fumes in the coolant) nothing happened. I had driven the truck around and had it properly warmed up. What else would cause air to be in the cooling system? After the truck gets shut off you can hear air bubbles in the radiator for a few seconds. Help?

Head gasket time that is the only way you can get bubbles in the cooling system constantly.

Same thing happened to me, I ended up having a broken head bolt. But I replaced both head gaskets anyways.
