Hi im a new member and awsome site by the way found lots of info so far but im having some trouble finding on thing. currently im planning on doin a leaf swap on my 87 k5 with 52s up front and 56s out back i got all that worked out I have all that layin out back. My question is I know im gonna need cross over steering but a friend of mine was telling me i need high steer is this true cause im pretty sure ive seen people with the leaf swap that just ran the cross over with out the hight steer. Thanks for any info hopefully gettin started on this swap next week.

no all you need is crossover. I just finished swapping in 52s and am only running crossover.

Thanks for the info. This project is just to maybe bring my k5 back from the dead I bougth it couple years back when I was dumb and wanted a play truck, beat the crap out of that thing now its been sittin for a while.

Now it needs new tranny, transfer case pickin up a new/used one this weekend, front axle is junk, the front of the frame when i do this swap needs to be repaired cause tow hooks ripped through the frame from trying to pull a buddy out. the motor actually aint to bad still starts right up haha.

if this swap actually goes the way I plan, I will probaly start investing in it more to make it a decent trail rig.

Welcome to the site!! If you are serious about bringing your K5 back from the dead, you should inveset in a membership here. You will be able to see pics and it also allows you to search the formums. I have been a member for a few years and it is the best $$ I have spent for my K5.

I will probaly do that eventually, I like this site theres alot of good info on here I joined a couple days ago and found just about found everything I needed for this build except the question I had earlier. pretty much everything to get this project goin it aint costing me nothing till i get to the cross over steering wich I have a dana 44 laying around to throw on it then gettin drive shafts. Then after that its balancing the funds between the k5 and my quad wich i just dropped 2 grand on it just for shocks, haha just what I need another hobby.

And once you become a member, get out the credit cards. This stuff on here is addicting. And your truck will never be done. Welcome aboard.

Ha. That's the only reason I haven't joined yet...
Cause I know once I get in, I'll never be happy...
And wifey already thinks I spend too much money on my k5. I've already told her I need tires and about how much they're gonna cost and she is freakin out....

You blew it. Always tell her about 40% more than they really cost. Then when you need them, "you got a killer deal".

Does not work with my wife, but you may have better luck with yours.

Another question for you guys I hear of this death wobble thats created with this swap, and they cure it with a panhard/tracbar. I also hear people on here who have done the swap that dont have the death wobble and dont run a panhard bar, maybe cause pinion angle and castor was dialed in,or Maybe thats because they didnt mention they were running a panhard bar idk.
basicly what im asking is how many people here run with or with out panhard bars and how does it act goin down the road.
My rig if I ever drive it out of my yard on its own power its barely ever gonna see highway, I can get to all the trails around here by back road so ill rarely see 55/60mph.

Thanks again idk if these are noob questions im just trying to gather as much information as I can before I tackle this project.
