Hey guys. Just want to say whats up? Got my 72 K5 a couple months back and started enjoying it for the summer. From what I know, i have a 350 V8 with a 3 speed manual on the floor (side loaded) and dont know what transfer case yet. I'm guessing the 3 speed is an sm330? Not sure. Maybe someone can give me some hints as to what I may have, cause I really need to replace it. I picked up an sm465, a later model with a 32 spline output, unfortunately, i have yet to get my hands on a 205 with a 32 spline female input and the adpater for the both. I also have a 4 inch superlift with 33's. This was how I bought the truck, and it only took me a little bit to get it back into running shape. Changed all fluids, etc. Just my trans is leaking and falling apart, not very driveable now. Pictures will follow soon.

I have never head of a 72 comming with a 3 speed?
Some folks call a Sm465 a 3 speed w/granny low but it is still a 4speed.
as far as I know the only manual offerd in a 72 was the 10spline SM465 mated to a NP205. Some of the ealier first gens has SM420 with, shoot I can't recal the xfercase, I think a Dana 20 or something like that.

Anyway take some pics and we will figure it out :D

They actually came with 3 speeds , fully synchro'ed too . I don't know too much , but its in the 72 K5 model yearbook at Dremu's page .
 
yeah, my best guess is

My best guess is it was originally a 3sp on the column that was converted to a 3spd on the floor.

My 70 K5 has a SM465 and supposedly it had a Dana 20 mated to it originally. The prior owner broke the transfer case so I bought it missing the transfer case. I put in an NP205. Has your steering column been replaced or modified so the shifter is gone? I've never seen a K5 with a three speed. My 69 K20 was a three on the tree until I swapped in a SM465 and a 454.

Will be interesting to see which transfer case yours has. Be sure to get pics of it.
 
Yeah, i gotta take some pics for you guys. Again, not sure what the transfer case is, i gotta get under there and take a look. Updates to come very soon.

My 70 K5 has a Saginaw 3 speed with 250 L6 and Dana 20 transfer case. I have yet to see or hear of another so equipped. This was the base engine/trans combo in 70. The motor, tranny and transfer case aren't even listed on the glovebox sticker.
