New Member... these are my kind of people.

Dang, I stopped getting notifications after a few comments. Well, I’m in NE Indiana if anyone ever needs a hand and/or beer I can help with that too. I just doubled the value of my $2k purchase with some rims and tires. Now on to chasing those engine leaks. Valve covers seem to be the culprit but I’m pulling them tomorrow and taking a better look. I bought some rubber gaskets with metal inserts along with the chrome tee handle tensioner bolts. I am open to any and all recommendations for this truck. As long as it isn’t a money saving get me buy for now tip. I want to spend the money and enjoy this thing with my kids. Not wrench on it every other weekend.

I used to put valve cover gaskets on with Gasgacinch on the tin side. Never been a silicone fan I will use when I have to... So these days I glue the valve cover gaskets down with silicone, I prefer Honda Bond, both sides a lite coating smeared flat with fingers. Aluminum valve covers with thick flange are better, but most have horrible oil baffles. Something to be aware of when shopping.

Make sure the tin valve cover flange is flat and the bolt hole are flat. don't over tighten the bolts 20 to 25 inch pounds ( thats 2 foot pounds) is all you need. The T handle extended fasteners are nice the do have an issue they are so long they vibrate and come loose, you can try blue lock tight, it should help.

Nice looking truck wheels and tires are great.

Is that an SMG in mud ?

If yours has the perimeter style valve covers, get a set of these hold down tabs for each side. They spread the load out across the valve cover to clamp it down better without just pinching it down at the bolts.

That’s the info that is just awesome. As mentioned; I’m a plumber pipefitter first and mechanic second. I absolutely cannot stand silicone at work for sealing. It dries solid and with any sort of vibration over the years will crack and leak. It has to be the same for vehicles, in my opinion. My dad is the mechanic. He’s a practical mechanic though. The “well you don’t ever really need a lift kit. Guys always like the look but it’s no fun working on them” type. He’s not wrong but it’s just funny how different we are on opinions but the exact same on work ethics.

Also, that’s a paintball gun in the mud. I went through a phase of owning as many as I could with a full station thinking we’d all play every weekend. Never happened. So I gave my kids all the cheap ones to play pretend in the woods.

Wecome brother hoosier, I live in goshen, and go back to the fort to see my dad, well b-4 the shet hit the fan, my br lives east of turtle town and my sis lives auburn,,,,now for the big question, ,Iu,Purdue, or like me ND.??

That’s pretty cool. Small world. I’m a fitter for Local 166 in the fort but I live about 10 minutes north of Auburn. Ashley area out in the country. Well, we were always a Purdue family and then I married a Purdue nurse. So.... they’ve gotten too much of my money to jump ship now.

They look like a bigger alloy chain master ring, that was welded on like a tiedown ring,Jm2cw.

What are the nose rings on the front bumper?

I bought it from a friend of a friend. The buddy that gave me the lead on it made the bumper and welded tow rings on it. They took it to the dunes a lot.

Welcome aboard
I live SE of Kalamazoo, so kind of between you guys.
