Just wanted to introduce myself since I just purchased the membership. I live in Murrieta, Ca and have been lurking these forums for about 3 weeks
Just bought a '78 K5 4x4, 350ci,TH305/ NP203 (part time kit), 3" lift with 31's and steelies. Also has an old TSM rear disc conversion kit which I'm going to replace soon.
Only 2 owners, guy i bought it from was 2nd owner and purchased it in 1980.
I'm swapping out the th350/203 for a 700r/205 twin-stick setup next week and I'm looking forward to it. The 203 case in this thing has A LOT of slop that I'm guessing is partially due to the close-to-30-year-old part time kit. I'm going with the 700r because in So. Cal. it's hard to drive under 70mph and not fear getting rear-ended by someone! The 350 makes the motor scream!
Future plans include replacing the 3" leafs with 4" and a 1-2" body so I can run 35's with minimal to no cutting. Of course at this point I'll probably have to regear. I plan on replacing all the seatbelts and carpeting. Would like to do the spray in treatment but a carpet kit is where I'll probably go. Oh yeah... needs a new tailgate since this one's cracked.
My goal is to make this thing mechanically sound as a daily driver and trail rig. Southern California is a desert. Not planningon doing much mudding since much of what we have here is the consistency of clay. Eventually it'll be a weekend excursion vehicle. For now, it needs to be reliable to be able to transport the family.
I've learned tons from this website already and hope to learn a lot more from this website's members. Oh yeah... hopefully we can get a good group of locals for some trail runs!!
