New Motor Discussion

Maybe I should just buy that damn Caddy 500 back from you. :haha:

Thanks Kert, I guess that puts a new spin on it that I really hadn't thought a lot about. Personally, I think the L47 (olds 4.0) would be the coolest motor to build, but there aren't a ton of options if it doesn't have enough power for my liking when it's done...and to the best of my knowledge nobody has done it before except the sand rail guys. I guess I could use a megasquirt in lieu of the traditional computer to try and squeeze a few extra ponies out of it.

Think it's worth going back to the yard and buying the blown one they have for an experiment? :dunno:

Might be if you can get it cheap enough. Nothing wrong with experimentation. Can get spendy if your not careful. Would help to know what "Blown up" exactly means. Busted rod, broke crank, 2 holes chewed up and the side of the block knocked out I'd have to pass!:haha:

I didn't ask for a price on that one, but they want $300 for a good 3.5 with 80,000 on it. I can't imagine a 4.0 that smokes would be more than a couple hundred.

I should have rephrased that, it smokes, didn't ask if it's white or black. Something could be seriously fubared, it could just be a valve guide. I don't know. It'd be mainly to see if a 420 would bolt up to it and if there's anything on it that's an absolute cluster**** that can't be worked around.

What's the worst that could happen? I pay $200 for it, it can't be used, and I take it apart and bring the block and heads in for aluminum scrap? :haha:

Yes, I know, I've started umpteen threads about this and not done anything. If I could just pick a motor and be done with it I'd be in a lot better shape.

Someone just ship me a motor and send me the bill. :doah:

Don't get me started on that asshat. I PM'd him WELL before the PBB thread was started, he didn't reply for 3 or 4 days even though he was online. He then responded, to which I promptly stated I'd give him his asking price if he was a little flexible with pickup. So today, two days later (after he'd been online numerous time) he PM's me and says that there's someone else interested and the first person to put 50% down via paypal gets it. If he would have replied in the first place it would have been sold last Saturday.

Kert, you'd be the business drop point anyways. Did you think I was gonna assemble this bitch in my apartment? :p:

Oh just buy the 5.3 you know you want to...

good torque and horsepower. Ive got friends with well over 150,000 on their Z71s with 5.3s so 68,000 isnt jack.

also look at where you make all the power at. If you get a V6 your going to have to spin the hell out of that motor to get places.
