New motor mounts install

Is it easier to bolt the mount to the engine and them bolt it to the frame, or drop the engine onto the mounts? Noticed they have a lot of movement when bolting them to the frame. Also are the long bolts that go through the rubber supposed to go through in opposite directions? i.e. one goes in from the rear and one goes in through the front. Well I usually install the mounts loose and then instal the engine. Then I install the long bolts and then tighten the mounts to their pads. I believe this helps the mounts last longer.

I've always dropped the engine into the mounts. They're pretty much self-aligning once the brackets drop into the mounts.
