So I put anew 350 crate in my 82 k5 with summit headers and an edelbrock performer intake. It was running good for two weeks. Yesterday I shut it off and when I went back to move it, it wouldn't start. It was cranking but felt like it wasnt gettig gas. Checked the carb and could hear and smell it.This morning it back fired on me. I've Ben cranking it and it almost grabs a sec or two then just dies out. Im afraid of causing anymore harm to it. Only got 100 or so miles on it. Oh ya it has a quadra jet carb on it. Would the headers and intake cause it to run that lean? Any help please!:sign22:

If it backfired it has spark. But it may not be good. Remove the plug wire easiest to remove, stick a screwdriver in the end the plug goes it, have someone crank it while you hold the screwdriver close to a ground on the motor, it will spark. Warning, it will hurt if it shocks you, careful

Make sure you distributer is tight. I may have come loose and is now out of time.

I'd agree, make sure the distributor is tight, as in can't easily rotate by hand...backfiring indicates spark. Doesn't mean spark ISN'T a problem, but if the timing is off far enough, it won't start. Don't waste time checking spark yet, check distributor.
