Decided to finally drop some coin on a decent welder. Now that I'm back from my deployment, I have a few days off to play around with it. First project will probably be something of a cart like RudyO did.

I likes! How much it run ya? Welding carts are the perfect first project, especially if you have scrap laying around. The cart I built is tame compared to some of the ones I looked at. Search Offroad Fabrication Network, Miller or Lincoln welding projects, and some of the metal working sites for good ideas.

I learned a lot from that project, and some things I learned half way into it (like weld the panels from the bottom, not the top, lol).

Good luck!

Thanks for the search tips! I'll be sure to look around. Delivered, it was right around $2K. Lincoln was running a deal to get a $75 gift card if purchased before 30 April. I purchased my on 28 April, but you had to register before 15 May. By the time the welder was delivered and with me redeploying back to the states on 16 May, I didn't get to register for the gift card.

UPDATE:

I e-mailed Lincoln and told them that I was unable to register my welder and asked if they could help me out. Here is the reply I got...

While the deadline for registration was May 15th, I can help get this fixed for you. Please send me the code number for the welder you purchased. It is a 5 digit number that starts with a 1, and is on the machine near where the serial number appears. I will also need;
Distributor you bought the welder from
Their location
The Invoice #
what card you wanted (American Express, Best Buy, Outback, Target, or Cabela's)

Please click "reply all" so I'm copied on this information
Thanks for choosing Lincoln

I didn't tell him that I was in the military and that I was deployed at the time, just I simply was unable to register and that I was planning on buying the welder anyway, gift card or not. However, it would have been nice to take advantage of the offer. So I e-mailed Chris all my info and ended up getting my gift card! I'm pretty impressed. They could have told me to go pound sand, but ended up hooking me up anyway.
