New project build (not really)

I figured since I sold my k20 in order to have a wood shop in my garage bay.
, I’d start putting the pictures up on here. If nothing else it’ll give me a place to kee track of the pictures.
In no particular order some of the stuff I’ve done in the last year since starting on wood ...

Walnut and maple box with zebra wood splines for my nephew

a flag for my brother. Burned the stripes on and cut the deer out by hand.

Oven cover for my wife. Actually my very first project that wasn’t vehicle related. Started this whole shit show.

Maple and cherry end grain board. 16”x23”. Weighed almost 20lbs was for my neighbor who does catering business.

Some more work this weekend. Tried weaving in some different wood and trying techniques for the end. Need to do some sanding, branding, and get them finished this week.

Made a couple of flags today my buddy’s wife has a vinyl printer so I used that as a template for the stars Wasn’t perfect got some bleed thru I kept the shittiest one for me
The one with the logo is a YouTube channel a hunting buddy of mine is doing. The other one I sunk some steel plate in the back. And I cut out a deer head and duck cutout and sunk magnets into those. So the design can be changed with the season or mood.

Just trying to catch up on things

so I sold out of my first run of cutting boards I made an Instagram for the woodwork. We will see if I can drum up some customers. My friends wife is a has a pretty big ig following for her cooking page. Hopefully I can get some looks from her people.

Pulled the filters off my fans. Amazing how much crap just a furnace filter strapped to a fan can collect. Glad to keep that shit out of my lungs



Making a watch box for my dad. Using a rich mahogany becuase why not. I’m going to etch a piece of glass for the lid



This turtle is a gift for a Hawaiian family member. I cutout the islands and filled them with tinted epoxy. Also found some Kia wood which is the medium brown wood in the middle. Just that amount was $50. Crazy.

Plus side is I have 3 custom pieces that people have asked me to make. So maybe I can start accomplishing something.

Made a watch box for my dad for Father’s Day/birthday. He recently got into collecting watches so it seems like a decent gift. I flocked the inside of the box which wasn’t too hard. Also tried glass etching for the first time. Was easier than expected.
I put time stands still on there as a nod to the watches, but also to a rush song since that is another hobby we share.

I went with mahogany for the box and cherry for the splines. I love the mahogany. Looks killer. Not a fan of the angled splines that I did. Was trying something different, well now I know won’t do those again.

I actually side that on purpose. I wanted the splines to be more subtle in this one. One boxes I’ve done in the past I’ve wanted to splines to be the “star”. But with the mahogany I wanted the splines to be more for strength and just play second fiddle.

Last two pictures of these projects. Shipping them off tomoro. Man I’m super pleased with that flocking. Went on way easy. Let it sit for two days and just blow it out with the compressor. All the extra flocking just blew away and left me with a nice level finish.

A few months ago I made a 2’ wide cutting board for my neighbor that does large catering jobs.
well he ended up with some prime rib leftovers and had a few neighbors together for dinner.
got to see the big bastard putting in work on a whole beast of prime rib



my friends are opening a tattoo studio so My wife got them a bottle of champagne. I made a quick and dirty gift box for them. I got a cricut vinyl cutter so I’ve been using it to do logo cutouts for stencils. Used some glass etch creme to do a frost on everything but the logo. The Creme works much better than this picture does justice. I ran out of brushes so I just kind of moooshed it around which is why it isn’t as good as it should be



I’ve had a few burls of exotic wood hanging out for awhile. Well I decided to chop it up and use it for inlays as accent on future projects. As I was resawing it down I found this sweet patterns in the grain. So I ended up keeping 4 boards to use for a future project

Last picture is of the exotic bow ties I made. From a burl of Beli wood. Don’t know what I’ll use them for, but they should contrast and look fun

cool.. my old roommate Greg was a furniture refinisher, but his hobby was making fancy inlaid boxes.. all that birdseye maple, etc stuff... I probably have a dozen kicking around the house he gave me that i use for various things...

My neighbor likes to do that. Takes old cabinets and tables and sturdies them up and refinishes them. I hate it. I don’t want to have to deal with sanding all the nooks and crannies. Honestly sanding is probably where I cut the most corners on the stuff I actually make lol.
but yeah I do love the small projects. My quality is still lacking, but I see it getting better with every project so I keep chugging along.
