Hey All,
Have finally committed to restoring my '73 K-5. It's been sitting for a couple years now but still runs (needs new steering box). Was my daily driver for several years before I parked it. I'm the third owner.
Drivetrain is original 350 (few mods)/T350/NP203. 12 bolt rear and Dana 44 front. Essentially, all stock.
Body needs some work. Rust in the quarters and cowls. More around the rear wheel wells. May have seen some saltwater as the owner before me drove it on the beach more than once.
I'd like to go frame-off on this one. Can't stand body work, so my thought was that I'd strip out the interior, then trailer it over to a good body shop and have them pull the body, then trailer the rolling chassis back to the house for tear down and rebuild. Hopefully, I'd have the chassis and drivetrain back together before the body work and paint were complete, then bring it back to the body shop, drop body back on and re-install interior.
Any thoughts, comments or suggestions on this general approach? I'll get into some of the details I have planned for things like the drivetrain, suspension, interior, etc. in other posts.
Thanks!
