Here is where we are at; taken from DK5s thread. (I started a new thread as that one was his.)(Edite for content):D

This is awesome news! :saweet:

I'm gonna want one, just not sure if I'll be able to order until Q1 of 2010.

Improvements? Well, having never actually laid eyes on one, I can't say.

I will say, make sure that the window used is something that's readily available, preferably in a size that's commonly available in both one-piece windows and sliders. I'd personally want a slider, but some folks might prefer a one-piece.

Another idea I'd had was to make it so that a one-piece window could be used, but easily removed with some sort of rotating clamping system, similar to the wing window locks on the doors. That'd allow the window to be removed and reinstalled really quickly. A plexiglass window might be good in this app. It's just an idea, but it'd be a quick 30-second way to simulate full-topless mode. :D

I think the easiest way to make that happen would be to have a lip on the inside, so that the window would just sit in place, with the clamps holding it tight. Weatherstripping wrapped around the window itself, rather than the "top" would provide the sealing.

Either way, in any version, I'll be really glad to get one!

here is the one i picked up for DK5. its pretty much new. has some minor scratches from storage and stuff. its never been painted so it has a little surface rust.

I also need a local guy to let me borrow his Blazer sans the top, so I can fab up the bottom part that is missing.

I have a local machine shop VERY close if need be, but from what I have seen, I can build these in my garage with the tools that I have.

They sold for $800 new, but if I can make them for a amount then, I will try to keep the price down.

I am still very interested in making these, but I need a local glass guy and a local truck to borrow for a few months(at the most) to make the lower portion.:waytogo::D

I have a meeting with a Fiberglass guy TODAY! He comes well recommended in all composite systems, so I am stoked.

He is in town which is great. Any questions, concerns?
Who is truly interested?
Who would pay $750 for one tomorrow?

Please all candid feedback is appreciated. I want to make this viable for ALL involved. Cheers!

is the $750 for the top and lower? would it use a stock pickup window?

It would be for everything plus shipping. I know where I can get the windows, but not sure if they would come with the correct weatherstripping, so I would have to figure that out, but I plan on offering it as a complete kit and pieces if need be. A few have asked about JUST the top or bottom.

OH, it would not come with the tonneau cover at this time.

Any of you guys still down?

I spoke with the fiberglass guy tonight and he is going to get me a price on the mold next week.

He said it was going to be SUPER easy!

If this happens, Im in for one.

Complete kit?

Options:

Slider Window
Stock Replacement one piece Window
Lexan one piece window

Top only
Bottom Only

No yet, waiting on

1. someone with the bottom piece to send me some more info,
2. fiberglas guy to get me that pricing,
3. a local to step up and let me borrow his/her blazer,
4. find a good source for the back window.

Which brings me to another point.

Would anyone that wanted a slider be against a good USED unit instead of a NEW unit, as long as it was in good shape?

If it was guaranteed not to leak and priced accordingly then I wouldn't see any problem with new or used.

I may be interested in one later in the year depending on price. Especially if they work with the truck rear window since I have both a slider and 1-piece sitting in my garage

didnt some kits use reg slider window kit for pickup ? or if to tight a fit mabye s10 size window ?

No they use a Dodge truck of the same vintage, why I don't know.

i agree completely

10-4, I probably couldn't guarantee the used ones not to leak, but I could the new ones on a non-modified truck.

They do not work with the chevy Window, it a 80s dodge.

What is a price point for you guys? These were $800 new when they came out in the 80s or whenever. I want to make it cheaper than that to help the community.

Oh I guess I missed that. As for price, I'm waiting to recieve my softopper which is around $850 so it would be awhile till I could afford another top for the truck but at $800 I would just try and make something out of an old blazer top

Thanks for the input. I will do my best to offer a quality part to the community at a fair price.

Thanks Again!

Well anything more than about 400 and i would rather cut my spare in pieces and throw some glass and bondo at it.

Thanks for your input! I know alot on here would rather do that for their trail rig. But if I can produce them for $400 that would be awesome.

Time will tell.

Thanks Again!

You would make plenty off of them at that price.

Im sure you could sell at least 30 units, if not more

Well, $400 is out of the question. I just got the quote in for the mold and for him to pop them, and anything short of a small business loan and I am out. lol

But seriously, I am going to shop it around and see what I can find.

I am thinking the metal portion will be the easiest piece to make.

On the other hand, there has not been alot of interest, so time will tell, but personally I really want to do it.

OK, so this is going nowhere real fast and money is getting tight.

If I could sell just the fiberglass parts for $450, how many people could come cash?

If not who wants this thing? I have it sold pending a response from another member, but otherwise if there is no REAL interest then I would rather cut it loose and let someone enjoy it.

i'll take it. if not im hacking up my spare.

Things and needs have changed. First $500 plus shipping gets mine with a sliding back window.

Cheers!
