Allow me to think out loud for a moment if you will please. Disregard this post if you dont like rambling...
As most of you know, im in process of buying a new house. We are in contract and underwritten and good to go. We get the keys Feb 13th. Upon getting the house, i will need to buy a fridge, washer, dryer, hardwood floors, and a new kitchen. Among other things... The moral of my story here is that money has been tied up STRICTLY with the new house purchase for a while, and will continue to be tied up for another little while. Because of that, i still haven't "started" on this truck. I have just been all talk.
As you have seen from my burb "build", i can do a build! When the timing is right... So i can promise i wont be all talk forever.
The good news, is that once all the dust settles on the house deal, which will likely not really be until late summer (feels like a million years from now), is that i will have a two garage to work in and can alocate a decent amount of funds, farily quickly, to the 78.
When that happens i think the work on the truck will go something like this,
New exhaust first thing. I just hate the exhaust thats on there now. ITs headers and dual flow master 40's. Sounds bad ass! But i hate it! Maybe if it was just a wheeler or something, but for a DD type truck that i want to rack up some miles on, the exhaust just sucks to me. I have wanted to do the exhaust for years and it buggs the crap out of me so its priority number one!
Next will be suspension which will consist roughly of 2" tuff country ezride front springs, half ton rear springs, sulastic rear shackles, ORD extended front greasable shackles, and Bilstien 5150's! Should make for one sweet riding mofo!
Once thats done its all about the body. For that, i think its going to go something like this, get the new bed painted, and bed lined. Sell the old bed. Repair the rust in the cab. Lay the cab on its back and do spray on sound deadenr on the bottom(might do bed liner instead). Paint the rest of the body. Upon re-assembly i will sound deaden the $hit out of everything! Using a combination of spray on and dynamat type products. Every nook and cranny that can hold some type of deadening material will get it.
The interior will be a none too nice, simple resto. I'll re dye the plastics and do a new head liner but i wont be getting too overly crazy with stuff like new gauges and bezels and such. Just nice enough to make it nice, without trying to strive for show quality. Hopefully that makes sense. The floor will get deadened some how. Im thinking bed liner to hopefully add a layer of protection against moisture. I haven't decided if i want to do rubber mat or carpet. Kinda want the rubber mat. We'll see. Other than that, i'll keep the cd player that's in it now. The doors are already cut for 6" speakers so i'll cut them out for 6x9's. They will get packed full of deadener as well. I'll get or make some brackets to put 6x9's in the cab corners. And then i really want to try out one of those bazooka tubes behind the seat. I think that would add an appropriate amount of bass.
I want to run 285/75-16 toyo mt's. I just think they have the best combination of looks, aggressive tread, and street manors. And i think i will keep the steel wheels. There is a part of me that really wants to run some mickey Thompson classic II aluminum wheels, but i feel like maybe best to just stick with the steels.
Im going to swap to 3.73's from the 4.10's.
The only other things that i want to do that i think will likely end up waiting another year after all that other stuff is done, is i will swap in a LS motor of some kind. Likely just a 5.3. I would like to add an overdrive trans but we'll see. Thats lower on the list. And i really want to add air conditioning.
Anyway. THats about it for now for rambling. I just had to get it out! I think about all of everything that i just spelled out, EVERY DAY!!! I so badly cant wait. Its just torture every day until i can actually start digging in with some meaning!
Ok. Bye bye now. Im off to dream some more about every last conceivable detail.

I'm quite happy with my 3.08 gears, and consider my 3.73 truck to be downright ridiculous on the highway (both have O/D).
