Hello all, I have an 88 suburban that I am looking to build into a expedition type vehicle. I already have some 35s for it, so what lift? Is 4in too little? Ive seen 2.5 in lift with 35s but dont want to cut the body. All the info is appreciated. Thanks

4 inch lift on 35's is pretty standard. Depending on the type of wheeling you do, you're going to need to trim. I run the same setup and when I am really flexed out I hit the fender.

Ive ran 6in and 35s before but think it would be too tall for the wife. Ive been looking at the 4in stuff but ive seen a guy on here with 2.5in and 35s but im sure he cut alot. Thanks guys

There's a guy on here who runs 35's stock... all depends on what you wanna cut....

I ran 2.5 front springs and 35's, I ended up using a pair of zero rates and trimming a wee bit from the front fender "fang" to clear when stuffed. If I had to do it over I might just go 4 inch from the get go.

Well we plan to use it for family outings. No serious off road crawler stuff. Just weekend getaways, wife will be driving it during week if needed.

Welcome to the sub culture! 4" lift front springs with moving the center pin forward maybe 1-2". Shackle flip the rear and you should be handling a true 35" tire just fine without major cutting. Maybe just some edge smoothing.

Bolt on no trimming, you'll have to run a 6" lift.

I've got a 88 Burb, I'm going 2.5 to 3 inches and 32/33 tires. Limiting myself due to the 700r4 and the 3.73 gears. Much bigger than 33 and I really should re-gear it. Plenty high since I don't rock crawl, especially with a suburban, a little too big IMHO.

You wheel width and offset will effect your clearence too. 4in 35s on an 8in wide rim with minor trimming at the bottom of the fenders where they roll in and you should be fine.

Ok I put the 35s on with a lil trimming to the inside wheel well and some precision hammering. Now im looking for a place here in CO to do some re-arching or just a good deal on some stock springs. Any ideas?

hi and welcome!

I just found your thread...

look here for what size tires & lift pics...clicky lots of great rigs.

this has got to be one of the best equipped rigs to date...and it's not finished yet...clicky btw, it's a long read.:waytogo:

Anything up to 4" should be about perfect for what your after. And re-arching stock springs is not such a good idea. Cost wise its so close to a set of aftermarket springs that are going to ride miles better than a re-arch unit.

Im just thinking about the spring issue. My wife is much shorter than me. Any springs over 3 inches would be too much and I dont want to lift with blocks. So who has a 2 inch with springs and not blocks?

Best to go with the tuff country ez ride 2" kit then. They use front and rear replacement springs. Also if ride is a concern, get bilstien 5150's. If you have the funds, a set of custom springs from ORD is the absolute best way to go.

Can you order directly from tuff country or separate vendor? They always mark stuff up. Just looking for the best deal
