About 10 years ago,a long time chevy dealership went out of business in a town near mine after the owner passed away..they were in business since the 1940's..(when the owner died, they held his calling hours in the showroom!)..
I heard from one of the former parts countermen that worked there a long time, like 20+ years, they had several "leftover" Targetmaster and "Mr.Goodwrench" new 350's for older vehicles ,that either didn't sell,or were ordered and never picked up,collecting dust in the storage room..
He said a guy offered $1000 for three of them, and they accepted his offer!..he bought one for himself for a spare for his 72 K10 pickup,or any other GM project the future may bring..
He also said they had some engines they "warrantied" but didn't scrap, including a few highly desirable ones from the '60's--a 302 from a Camaro that spun a bearing,a 409 "service replacement" truck short block, brand new, still on a pallet, covered with cosmoline, that was bought for the local electric company's bucket truck they sold to them...and a few high HP 327's from Corvettes that needed complete rebuilds..he thinks those may have all been hauled off for scrap,he was going to put in a bid,but they were gone when he went too..
The whole building was gutted out--they sold or scrapped all the lifts, compressors, overhead lube racks too..
