Hey Gang,

Just a few pics of the Work In Progress of my 91 Suburban 4x4,
added some amber Fog lamps to the front bumper, I still have to fully polish the paint and fix the Driver Door latch, among several other things. Hopefully i will get a front grill guard, with white driving lights mounted and some Nerf bars or steps, the wife and I have a hard time getting in this monster. I also want to add a roof rack and perhaps a spare tire holder with gas can for the rear end. If any of you have suggestions, I am all ears!!!! This is my first SUV let alone 4x4, I am learning fast, but always welcome suggestions!

Great looking rig and nice find! 91' is a special one time year for the 2500 because you have the newer 4 speed transmission. Before that, 3 speed so congrats! Looks clean too. I'd get a matching rear tinted glass and maybe a small step for each door. I have them and they are great! I'd also put in a zero rate or another leaf up front to level the truck up a little.

Great color too. Love it!

Yeah, i got it from a good friend for a steal! it took some work to get him cleaned up, it had been sitting in the desert for several years so the paint really got oxidized, they did replace the interior so new roof liner and re upholstered seats and carpet. It has a Brand new 350 with roughly 6k on it total!(to date) and a rebuilt 4L80e.I have the tint for the rear cab window too,I need to just put it on! apparently the previous owner before my friends accidentally busted it out, and never got the tint replaced. can't tint the rear tail window until I re-seat and get all the weather stripping replaced, the glass scratches when it rolls up and down. He is raised in the rear slightly because the previous owners towed a camping trailer, with it and when hitched made it even out. i would not be aganst adding a few leaf springs to the front. as it is i love the height! lots of clearance! Here is a pic of him the day i got him PS:the price on the windshield is NOT anywhere near what i paid :-P

Yea, definitely get the factory glass. It will look just plain goofy if you did an aftermarket tint. No way it would look correct.

Here is my original top with tinted windows and also notice the step for the driver/passenger.....:waytogo:

If only i were in Colorado! i found some inexpensive 35% tint, it seems to be very close to what those rear windows have. the tint on still has the brown/gray coloring too, has yet to purple. i may attempt to do it tonight and have pics for tomorrow. I am very picky so if it does not match, i'll just suck it up and have a pro take care of it. i appreciate the offer on it junior/jeff if we lived closer perhaps. now how much for the steps heheh!

i have been thinking of replacing the windows with sliders also, but in due time, if i ever find a JY blazer with them for a good price! something you don't normally see is a Sub with slider windows!

Just hit the junkyard.....you're going to have to start sometime!

I swapped my solid glass for a slider and it was pretty easy. If the suburban is as easy as the Blazer's fiberglass top, you should be fine and you probably can do it yourself. Look around for U Pull and Pay Salvage yards.

If it's like the Blazer, you take the metal clip out (1" wide) which exposes the rubber cord. Pull that all out and then carefully remove the window. I used Windex but maybe there is something better. Once the glass is out, you re-install in reverse order and then put the cord back in (this is the hardest, most time consuming part).

Head to the junkyard and at least try to pull one. If you can't get it or it breaks, well you lost your $2 entrance fee and learned something. Junkyards are great to practice things....:waytogo:

Ohh, I am a Junk yard Jockey! I kept my 94 Corsica alive on Junk yard parts! It is silly not to use that resource! It is a great way to get to know your vehicle, great way to spend an afternoon getting those factory extras(roof console,spoiler,tachometer...) and seeing how to take things apart before you do it on your own ride. I just pulled the Door latch assemb. as well as a rear spoiler, and some missing badges! we have about 6 ecology and or Pic-a-Part lots in my area! lots of goodies!

The Blazer windows are different than the Suburban windows. That is why you don't see any Suburbans with sliding rear windows.

Yea, I did know that.....just wondering if they are installed the same way. Shapes are definitley different so not compatible.

Ahh Rats.... Haha absolutely a different shape, I did not pay enough attention. I DO think they sell sliders for the suburban, i think that's where i got the idea.I want to say LMC truck, so i just assumed that GM would just use the same size window openings to save money!...Silly me, here is a link to what i saw....http://www.scribd.com/doc/87124810/25/Sliding-Side-Window-Set

I've never seen a slider window for the suburban and the slider at LMC for the Blazer definitley does not look "stock" to me.

I prefer the stock look for both trucks.

Me either, I guess someone on the board has a set of sliders on his Suburban but I can't seem to locate pics,I just think it would be convenient for the rear passengers, and make other Suburban owners go "Hmmm!"...The price on LMC is quite prohibative as is most of thier stuff lol I'm good with the solid windows for now! haha!
