Hello;

Been a member of this forum for awhile but don't post much. '71 Blazer with what (used to be) a good condition double wall top. Well a couple of weeks back working on the beast and had the lift gate up and decided to drove out of my garage with the hatch up. Needless to say the hatch is now trashed beyond repair. It barely holds the glass in.

Brothers truck wants $650 for the fiberglass shell and who knows how good a quality it is. Anyway I have pretty much decided to go the softtopper route. I searched the forum and it looks like this is the only game in town for a soft top.

Does anybody have a picture of the "dark tint" and different color options of this top? My main windows are tinted pretty dark by the P.O. Its amazing the cops haven't stopped me over the years.

I live in Colorado and don't drive it much during the winter (have a mainstream SUV) so the cold factor shouldn't be a huge issue.

Thanks for any input.

What is the only game in town? I don't see a link in your thread. :)

Well Softtopper is located in Colorado, so the shipping charges should be minimal... :waytogo:

I'm curious to know if they have any options for an insulated top, or if it's just the canvas material itself? :dunno: For winter driving, a warmer softtop could be difference between bearable and miserable.....

Thanks

Thanks all, I have a FEW more than 4 posts even though I admit to lurking most of the time. I also admit I let the membership lapse for a awhile so I had to pay up so I guess it wiped out my history.

I have owned the blazer for almost 20 years and its a love/hate relationship (mostly positive of course). We were getting along great until I got all excited and drove out of the garage with the rear hatch open. I let out some choice words on that one...

Yes by only game in town I meant for "softopper" soft tops as a GEN1 soft top source.

I've always wanted to do the soft top thing so I think I will go for it. May end up with a pair of slider side windows for sale if I do.

I will ask them about insulated soft top as well. Thanks again.

Soft topper makes some good products. I haven't had one as the cage sticks up well above the top.

I have had a full top custom built and two bikini tops by upholstery shops. Some pics are in my gallery. Worked so far. The full top has been in use since around 2008. Its about time for a new one.

Love my soft top. Any time the weather allows it the sides on my k5 at rolled up safari style.

I don't have tinted windows on it but do have the tan color top, seen here: http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=295939

Most the pics show it with the sides rolled up, but I can get you anything else you might need photo wise.

Here are the best pics of a tinted top I could find: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showpost.php?p=5897418&postcount=74

I like the look of the tan top and the tinted windows, matches my main windows more. Thanks a lot.

Greg, update... I spoke with softopper people and there is no insulation option (sadly). I will probably go for it anyway... thanks

Since you have had your softopper for some time. any tips? We have had ours for only a couple weeks. Grey with tinted windows. I was wondering too if you had any of the bows touching window. I have one place on both side windows that I am thinking might need a piece of leather or something to keep it from wearing on the window part?

How about rolling the windows up. are they a little stiff the first few times you roll them up and then get softer as they are used?

I am not sure if it's the same for you as it was for me, but one of my bars that touched each of the side windows had the polyester protector/sleeve for the windows slid up to the top of the bar (as to not fall off in transit before it's assembled).

You can see it in the third pic down here:

So I slid it down to the sides to protect the windows.

Mostly the temperature/sun affect how stiff the windows are. If it's been even a slightly cool night, they are still stiff until they get some good sun, and it's pretty mild weather here in the Bay Area.

I will try that...I have that polyester on the top of that bow. which is not as upright as I think it should be either...Kind of bows in the middle. Thanks for the idea. Like the pics. and Cool rig and good company! Thanks again.
