New steering box doesn't work right!?

I just put a rebuilt steering box on my 73 k-10. The old one was leaking bad, but worked perfect. The new one pulls to the right, steering wheel is not straight when I drive straight, and it is alot easier to turn right than left?

Does anyone know what I did wrong?

Or if I forgot something?

Mabye you didn't center the box?

i.e. had your steering wheel one direction before you put on the Pitman arm?

When I did my High Steer, I did the same thing.

Here's what you need to do. Remove the draglink from the pitman arm, now turn the steering wheel full lock to the left, count the amount of turns while you turn it full lock to the right, now turn it back half as many turns and the steering box will be centered. Make sure the wheels are pointing straight ahead before you do this. Now adjust the draglink until you can reinstall it and if need be you can make a fine adjustment afterwards. If the steering wheel is not centered properly then you will need to remove it and move it accordingly.

Thanks. Do you think I can just adjust the drag link a little? It's not that far off, only abou 15 degrees maybe. Also, what about how it's easier to steer right than left? Will this fix that?

I am going through the same problem. you can simply check the box to make sure it is okay. Lift the front tires off the ground and start the engine (disconnect the steering damper). Give the wheel a little push to the right--if it slowly turns (on its own) the rest of the way (to lock) the torsion bar in the box is bad. I just talked with Steven at ORD trying to figure out why mine is pulling right too. My box is good, but it's pissing me off with the persistant pull to the right. I've changed bearings, calipers, tires, alignment, kingpins, etc. Still pulls right.
Good luck.

Crossover is always easier to turn right then left. its pushing rather than pulling. A better pump will remedy that.

Yup. I replaced my box when I did my crossover and hi-steer and I don't have any problems with pulling or turning load. My only issue is that I can't turn all the way to the stops on the axle. I'm about 1" away so my turning radius sucks. Anyone got an idea for that?

I would try replacing the box and maybe double check your alignment and tire pressure/wear.
