I just picked up my first Suburban. 1985 2500 with the 3 speed and granny gear. She pulls nice and strong. Has vinyl seats and rubber flooring...gonna be sick in the mountains ....photos to follow soon when it's light out.

Suburbans put smiles on my face. I'm so glad you went with a square body rather than an IFS burb.

And yeah, the trans is a 465.
Pretty good final drive ratio in 4low and 1st gear.

and indeed the best gear :D

I could not agree more. I had a wagoneer, and it died, glad it did. I prefer the 2500 much more. Roll down windows...no more fixing tracks... way taller.. back to the manual trans... damn daylight need to get back so I can get to work and mess with it

Congrats on your score Mike! Seems Colorado Springs has been the haven for manual trans Suburban’s lately. I found this ’89 V3500 TBI 5.7L/SM465 on Colorado Springs Craigslist in October for dirt cheap. It needed some work though. I had to replace the windshield, clutch and repair the typical loose GM tilt steering column issue as well as about 20 hours of interior cleaning.

Rattle can rebuild on the engine while I had it out to replace the clutch. The dead clutch was a good excuse to yank the engine to reseal it and clean up wiring, etc.

There is a build thread of sorts on this Burb on Expo Portal. Project Polar Bear.

Nice! Mine is not quite that clean. But the price was very right. It has a bit of cancer on the rear quarters..but that's about it. It needs a good cleaning and paint, but mechanically it runs amazing.

Didn't you just put an new engine in that one Larry. That was a nice score also.

Nah, just a rattle can rebuild on the ole 5.7L. While the engine was out of the way to replace the clutch I replaced the intake gaskets, water pump, painted it, tuned it up, replaced of all the sensors and cleaned up all of the under hood wiring. In fact, you mentioned you had a Sub build tread here when we chatted on the 67-72 forum which is why I came back to check out CK5. I hadn’t been here in years. I can’t see your pics though as I am not a paying member.

Cool Mike. Maybe someday we’ll all have to have a Suburban trail ride day somewhere close by. Something easy like Medano or Tin Cup. My Sub is still all stock.

There will defiantly have to be a CO burb fest at some time. Even of we just talk about all the cool stuff we want to do. We can even invite those 2 door folk....ha.

And bummer Larry about the pictures. It's nothing special now but coming together nicely

Man I wish mine wan a manual. I'd like to swap an nv4500 in someday. Anyway, looking forward to pics!

First trip will be a light shakedown up old stage road to a nice free campsite I like to go to with some easy off roading. (well, kinda easy, my old jeep used to scrape up there
It's an hour away from my house and should let me know how things are goin before we head on longer trips
