Soo I am going to bite the bullet and put 6 new tires on the dually. Anybody have a recommendation on who to use online? I am looking at discount tires direct so far . I want 315/75r16 or a 295 in a a/t tire. The truck has a 4 inch lift and hauls a @3500# camper onto the beach. Thanks

Heres the second question, what size spacer do I need to make the 315.s not touch? Remember its a buttload of camper. The only ones I can find in steel are 2" and I dont think I should use aluminum. Any input is much appreciated.. Scott

I've had good luck with Discount. I've always ordered wheels at the same time and had them mounted by them. Pretty convenient. I'm not sure how it goes if you order just tires and then need to find someone locally to mount them. Shops might not appreciate that you purchased from the competition.

I'm also interested in hearing other options though, since Discount doesn't carry some brands I'm interested in.

I've bought online a few times. I usually shop by the tire, not the website. Whoever has it cheaper gets the loot. I've bought from ntwonline, discount, tirerack. Getting them mounted locally isn't usually an issue, but don't expect any deals since you DID buy from the competition. If you buy from a website that partners with local chains (like tirerack), you can get tires, mounting, balancing, road hazard, and free rotations through the local store. They also deliver your tires to the store, not your house.

I usually don't get the deluxe plan for the K5 though. I just get the tires and pay the $25 or so each to get them mounted/balanced local.

Make sure you have the price to mount and balance from the local shop. Most tire stores around here will give you a deal on the mount and balance if you buy the tires through them, so basically you get charged more if you bring tires in from an outside source. I have also found that many local shops will price match the online sites.

I just bought tires at NTW, they have a shipping deal on orders over 500 bucks, just 50 bucks to ship. I went with them because I couldn't find what I wanted at Discount or NTB.

Mine has spacers and they are aluminum. I've driven the outside wheels up on curbs several times in small parking lots (yes, on purpose :D ), they are holding up fine.

I dont mind the aluminum spacers for a lightly loaded truck but this thing is 11k at the scales!

Yeah, but that 11K will never be riding only on the spacers.

Not true... if you use the right spacers. The force generated by clamping really does most of the work. The dually wheels are hub-centric and some load is on the hub and require special spacers that I don't believe are made in aluminum currently. You need the ones on the top of this page, just request that they use 9/16" studs instead of the metric.

However from a materials standpoint, you can get some grades of aluminum that is stronger than some grades of steel. As an engineer, it drives me nuts that websites don't list what grade of materials they use when they call everything "Billet". Billet is a generic word that can be applied to the weakest grades of steel or aluminum and still be correct.

Thanks guys,I keep coming back to that website as my best bet but I really dont think 2" will work with my planned 315's. I just think I have too much weight and the tires will touch.

I am not sure yet, but the D.s give me enuff capacity I just think the e,s will not flex the sidewall as much. On a sidenote did cancan take you up on your dually?

dual 315's ought to be nice looking on the a$$ though:D ive ended up ordering my tires from summit the last 3 or 4 times. always liked dealing with them and the FREE shipping thing is nice too:waytogo:

I still have my dually. I went with load D tires and regret it a little because they bulge more under load. Mine are only 255's and will start to touch with about 3200 lb in the bed (no spacers). The tires have plenty of capacity, but I'd rather have E's if I did it again.

How do you get free shipping? They want to hit me with $200 truck fee.

As far as tires go...

The last few times I bought tires online I searched for the best price I could find then went to 4WheelParts and and they price matched them. I like that way cuz they will deliver it to the store for free and then you can get free rotate and balance plus the optional tread wear/tire warranty. It has worked out well for me three times so far.

I relooked at my last order

(4- 275/65/18" nitto's, 4- 18" wheels, 2 shocks, 2 sets of lug nuts, and a bushing set)

and I guess I did pay $76 in shipping. but that's a LOT less than discounttiresdirect or tirerack usually gets for just 4 tires
