I picked up and old trailer, it's my first.
One of the things that bugs me the most about it is the fact that it uses LUG BOLTS! It's not even hub-centric, so that makes putting a wheel on a real pain. Anyway, I'm guessing that these things are mostly universal, right? It's got electric drum brakes, and I'm guessing they're 10" (haven't measured them yet). So can I order any hub-drum assembly as long as it fits my spindle and brake size? How do I measure the spindle? I'd like to get a hub-drum that has studs, possibly one that uses a lug pattern that I may already have some rims for. I've been looking at stuff online at Champion Trailers.
I've also read that you're supposed to use "trailer tires" cause they have stiffer sidewalls which are less prone to sway and better for braking. But what if they're whimpy trailer tires with 1800 lb load rating, and I've got loads of E-rated truck tires that are rated for 3000lb or more? Wouldn't those be better?
