So sold my tow rig need a new one..........

How much better is the 8.1 vs a 454

Thinking about a Suburban for either of them

There is always a third option of a 5.9 but haven't looked that direction yet.

I'd say 8.1, newest tech when compared to the 454. The 42ci more are nice, and so is the available Allison trans.

The 5.9 with a nv4500 would be awsome though.

I really like my 2500HD with the 6.0L, FWIW.

The late 90s and newer subs with 454 are pretty nice. I'd love to get one if them and solid axle swap it.
