I have a 90 K5 and just replaced the transfer case. The one I had out in was off of an 87 and I guess the speedometer get's it's info differently. I guess this 87 transfer case is cable driven and my old transfer case had some sort of electronic plug in.

How can I get this to work? Do I need to get to the junkyard and pick up some old cables or will a trip to Autozone do the trick? Is there some sort of adapter?

Thanks in advance!

I know there are electronic sensors that can be used to convert the old cable system to send an electronic signal. Autometer has these for the electronic speedos, but I don't know what would be required to make this work with your setup.

As for changing to a cable, it could be done but you would need to change out the gauge as well as installing the cable and opening the firewall for the cable to come through.

Your final option would be to swap the output shaft from the old to the new if they are both the same transfer case. You basically need the toner ring that is mounted in place of the older style plastic gear.

You try simply removing them both from each output housing and just swaping them around. They may even have the same tooth count so the spedo wont be afected. If there both the same tcase unit can see no reason why this wouldnt work.Should be able to change the output shaft gear also if you need to.May be able to change the output housing around if needed.

Dont waste your time with a cable to electric converter. Had one in my camaro when I was a kid AND it was autometer brand. It was garbage and didnt work half the time.

Pull your cluster. Get a cable driven speedo from the boneyard and a cable and install that. Proper fix while keeping the case you got.
