So long story short, my great grandpa died last September and his possessions needed to be liquidated in order to distribute his wealth. One of his toys is a 2006 Chevy Avalanche Z71. Everyone in the family hat wanted it got to put our names in a hat and if your name was drawn, you got to buy it. My dad got it and now he wants to put a lift on it. He really wants 10” with 38s but I told him that’s way to much tire for a ½ ton IFS truck. What do you all think? He always told me the tires I wanted were too big and would only break stuff, a few years later and now that the shoe is on the other foot, he wants big tires and a big lift. Can anyone recommend a IFS lift for a chevy that isn’t a POS? am I right about a stock chevy IFS not being able to handle 38s? I think he should stick to a mild MT tire around 35” and a 6”-8” lift

either way the ifs is gonna suck. 35s are going to shorten its life as it is, nevermind the 38s. He could always get away with a small suspension lift and a body lift to get his tires on there, but still, its gonna suck

I'm not an expert with IFS lifts but I doubt you can get one taller than 6" for that truck.

A SAS is almost certainly going to be the best way to go as far as money is concerned, even if it's a street truck on 38's

Even if he's a mall crawler there will be endless alignment issues and lots of stock parts durability issues. Been there, done that, wasted tons of money on it.

Look up both of those companies...there lifts aren't known for quality.

Best case scenario would be a 4" lift that uses lift knuckles and a solid 1 piece diff drop frame with at max a 35" tire.

Then again it's his money and truck. I wouldn't do anything, maybe put 33" tires on the stock rims. GM IFS trucks SUCK so it's just going to fall apart eventually anyway.

In my opinion the rancho kit for those trucks is the best on the market.
That and run a 35in tire wouldnt go bigger than that.

the major problem i have seen n fixed on the ifs trucks of gm since 99-up is the car size inner tie rods that fold up like butter with bigger tires.

then wheel bearing/hub units dont last with big rubber.

there is lots of cons to the big lift ifs stuff. but a lot less in the sas stuff if done right.

check out ( rob h ) he did a radius arm coil kit solid axle on his 2500 hd truck and loves it. http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=279164

x2 on that
If it's a DD, keep it sane.

2006 cclb, febtech 4" 35s (it's too high in the back now, we don't have a camper anymore and the boat/utility trailer tongue weight is light) This needs hydro assist steering, it's impossible to turn without rolling. Some Bilstein 5100 made a nice difference over the shocks that came with the kit. As of 85k miles, lower ball joints, both hubs, and all steering parts have been replaced. PS> The Nitto Mud Grapplers are much quieter than the Pro Comps. I don't know about wear yet.
