Got a pretty good deal on a truck today, about an hour drive from home. Turned into a 2 day drive. Haha. Had one blowout, (tires have like 80% tread, but weathered). Had to leave it in a town halfway in between, luckily had family there....friend loaned me a spare, made it into town, then another tire went. Ended up having to steal the wheels off my blazer to get it home. Haha. Good times.
Picked it up as a project for my step son and I to get him goin through high school. He learned a lot today about the joys of owning an old truck, he’s still in love with it, I’m raising him right I guess. Hahaha!!

Yeah those headlights are square, no round, no square. It's cool that they have the '70s front end and the only year with those headlights. 1980 grill keeps growing on me

Slick truck.

Man, just pissing in everyone's cheerios...:shame:

I like the 80 model.
Will end up with a 80 CC dually someday.
Have an original Indy Hauler decal set.
Love the square light 80 models. I never understood round headlights on a vehicle where almost every line was straight / square.

Funny gm called them the "rounded line"

Also I wasn't try to piss in the Cheerios of this truck. Just my general dislike for the square headlights

Finally got me a garage to store all my crap. Been tearing down the truck and making sure it will be reliable for the boy. Also, he’s learning the art of “patience”. Haha!! He was fighting with a new header gasket.
Got the rear end done this weekend. Moving up the driveline and replacing seals, filters, gaskets, etc.....

Need some help!!
Gettin closer to getting this truck back on the road for my stepson. Running into yet another snag. Pinion bearings on front axle are toast, front driveshaft just barely fit together, completely extended out to fit on the truck and had a lot of slop.... removed axle cover and goop oozed out, And when finally getting inner axles out, to replace joints, saw the tubes were about 1/3 full of mud and crap. Axle is being rebuilt now, and while removing, also noticed all the leaf bushings were different (some poly some rubber) and were clinging to life. Ordered a new kit from Energy....
While removing the springs quickly realized why the drive shaft didn’t fit, the idiot that installed the lift put the springs on backwards. And had wrong size bushings.
So anyway, I finally fought and got the bushings replaced. But having an issue with the shackle side on one spring. The old rubber bushings had a metal sleeve around the bushing, but this one was not in it. As it had a poly bushing made for the front end (installed backwards). The sleeve is in the other side and the new poly bushings fit great with it. I had a metal sleeve that was a little larger in diameter so I took a section from the middle to make it small enough to fit into the spring but still the new bushings have about 1/8” of space. They don’t fit snug like the other side. What the hell do I do?? Lol.
The old poly bushing fits without the sleeve, but the inner bolt sleeve diameter is too large. And the new bushing is opposite. It’s a mess. And it’s holding me up from puttin the axle back in. Any suggestions? I can’t find on energy’s site how to search for bushings by size. Frustrating.

If it was me I’d give Stephen at ORD a call. Tell them the spring eye inner diameter and the size sleeve you have and they’ll find the correct size for you. This also might be a good time to upgrade the size of the rear shackle bolt and shackles of the front springs. And MAW do the FUSH kit (front upper shackle hanger) too. :rotfl:

different spring manufactures use different bushing size; for instance, Skyjacker and Superlift use one size while every one else uses a different size

It’s just weird how the bushing fits on the other spring. And this spring it doesn’t.
