New Warn compressor winch

Wanted to add a couple more cents - this debuted this week. Several of the most skeptical people I know saw the compressor winch in action and were greatly impressed.

It filled (4) 35" BFG Muds in 8 minutes - then also ran a impact wrench - one of the mechanics cross-threaded a wheel stud on the company Jeep using this without a tank. I have to admit I was very skeptical - but will likely be getting one for my Blazer when the become available - look for more to come around SEMA time frame...

The M12000 is huge. Freaking gigantic. It doesn't fit most aftermarket bumpers and wieghs a ton. Yes it will streatch your frame before it stalls but it will do it slow as hell and kill a battery fast during the process. If you are a strict mud guy than yes a 12000 makes sense. For back woods trials and rocks I think 8-9K is fine. 9K is 1.5 times the weight of your rig BTW.

The compressor is neat. I still wonder about the duty cycle and heat. Electric compressors make a lot of heat. How will it preform if you blow a bead in a spot that you have to winch out of and then air up the tire? That is my most common problem. I only blow beads where I can't jack it up to seat them.
 
I think that is an idea for some people but how my winch is mounted it would not work for me. I also only have an 8K warn and have not stalled it yet with my K5 but I do not run mud at all.

that is something a lot of people don't think about. If you are into deep mud... then a bigger winch (forget the 1.5x rule!) might be a good idea. Personally, I've never thought bogging was cool... so a lighter winch would be fine. If a double line pull from a 8274 can't pull me out, I need a shovel, not a bigger winch.

The compressor winch will not winch & blow at the same time - but you can switch back and forth quickly - and yes the top of the winch above the compressor cylinder gets very very hot. There were a dozen magazine editors that saw it on Wednesday - and every single one wanted one - they were very impressed with it. I've never seen a new product release where there is such an overwhelming consensus of excitement for a product. Peterson's was there - so there will be a full write up in one of their rags.

All of the guys that work at Warn that go to the dunes on the weekends with their 5th wheel toy haulers were very impressed with it for airing up.
 
I think its a cool idea but what happens when your winch takes a dump ? Will the compressor still work ? I had a xd9000i on the burb and I stalled it on a slight up hill . I know my burbs gotta be 7000lbs so I should be running the warn 12000 . I sold my xd9000i and I'm looking to get a bigger winch . I would rather have a york comperssor or a co2 tank as I have the engine bay space and room in the back for a co2 set up . I can see where this winch/compressor unit would be good for a jeep or a tube buggy . I bet alot of jeep rubicon owners are gonna be bolting these on their rigs :rolleyes: .

This is a deal if you need both.
Well my D60 and 8271 costed me around $500 for the package deal, and my OBA was put together for around $120 (and it's a fancy setup). So he's shooting a bit high if you ask me. :p:

I sold ny old one for 600 bucks if I remember right, really old!

I didn't expect them to work at the same time. I was wondering about how hot it will get if you need to air up directly after a hard pull, or need to winch hard directly after airing up.

'm into my 60 (including seals bearings, tie rod, steering arm and hydro assist), my 8274 and my impending OBA system for less than that winch/compressor combo. It's all about who you know and the right luck.
 
I splurged and spent $1k on my 60 (with 4.56's and ready to roll), $400 on my 8274, and $50 on my York. Granted I still need to plumb in the york but I should be able to do that for under $100.
