New Welder

That is a 50 Amp 250 Volt plug. That is exactly what mine runs off of. You will need a 50 Amp, two pole circuit breaker, and #8 AWG Copper wire (with insulation rated at 75*C or 90*C). You need to run two hot wires and one ground. These will need to go to a NEMA 6-50R receptacle. I ran a pigtail, about 5' long, straight out of the bottom of my panel, with a cord grip, to a female cord cap. Then I made a 50' extension cord. But, I got all the material for free. In the literature that came with my welder, it said to use a minimum 40A breaker, so that's what I used. My guess is that your welder will be fine with a 40A 2pole breaker. If you make any extension cords over 50', make them with baloney cable that has at least #6's in it, though.

Would that Lincoln 175 be able to handle welding a truck frame thickness? The most adventurous I am looking at currently is making a trailer from a truck bed and frame. Everything else would be smaller project I know it could handle.
