Posted on Pirate also but perhaps the sole GM crowd can help me more here.

Ditching the duel tanks on this pig. This is my first GM so I'm not exactly sure these operate yet. Swapping in a 31 gallon Blazer tank here in a few weeks. I am purchasing a new fuel tank and straps. I'll grab a cheapo skid from the bone yard for the time being. From what I can, I'll also need a new sending unit for the blazer tank and maybe a fuel pump.

Do these trucks use a mechanical fuel pump mounted in the frame rails or what? Can anybody provide some insight as to what else will need to be done to get me up and running?

Here is the parts that I was planning on getting so far-

-New 31 gallon fuel tank
-New tank straps
-New fuel sending unit
-Used tank skid from the bone yard

1986 was still a carbed engine so it uses a mechanical fuel pump that is engine mounted and driven from a lobe on the camshaft.

Great, thanks for the help. Does that mean I can just hook up the new Blazer tank, sending unit, fuel lines and be done?

bolt in / hook up / fill up and go .

all gm and all same fuel gauge specs so it wont know the diffrence.

and PLEASE dont use 20ft of off the shelf rubber fuel line . do hard line and efi rated hose for flex points between rame and tank . efi rated hose is better quality than gen use stuff these days .

3/8 feed/suction
5/16 return
1/4 vent

Don't forget the fill neck/hose, although Im sure you've thought about this. :)

The fill hose is pricey, if you can find one uncut, you might be better off. Something like $20/foot if you can find it as I recall.

Yea, I may go the flatbed route so that will be undecided for a while. I'll probably use one off my dual tanks to get me by for a while until I figure it out. I have another 15 months before emissions so I have some time.

After a bit more research, I'm thinking of just buying some of the Gates barricade fuel line to finish it off. Hard lines look like too much hassle to be honest.
