I was at the local Crystal Flash propane station last night dumping my used oil. Noticed this brute sitting there. Looks like a big service/work truck for them with a flatbed, bunch of tools, etc. Then I noticed it has a powered front axle...so wtf is it? Too cold and snowy for me to climb under but it looks like a Dana something.

Dana 70?

I took pics of a 4500 GMC truck at a dealership a few weeks ago thats exactly like what you posted in the pics. The one I saw had a dually bed on it from a pickup truck.

I crawled under the truck and got pics of the front axle and the t-case. Will move them from my cell to here.

im pretty sure its a dana 70 rated at 8000lbs

After looking at the pics I took, I believe the front axle is a Dana 80. Here are several I took:

Yeah...wtf?

Any idea on the transfer case?

i know for a fact some of the 4500's ive seen had Np273 so thats my guess

the new topkick/kodiak 4x4 trucks have a high pinion dana 70 front axle. i think 5.13 is the only gear available for them.

the transfer case on those is a divorced new venture model, but i forget if it is a 261 or 271.
