ok so my buddy at school wants to do a 3/4 drivtrain swap on his 2000 chevy 1500 4x4, he is planing on swaping the drivetrain out of a 2003 or 2004 3/4 ton chevy.

the question is will the axle out of a 3/4 bolt right in place of the 1/2 ton axle or is it wider or narrower

The rear axle will bolt in no problem. If he is wanting to swap in the 3/4 ton IFS parts them tell him not to waste his time. Many people have tried and it does not work. The only way to go 3/4-1 ton on a IFS equipped 1/2 truck is to do a strait axle conversion.

I looked into doing something similar with my 99 Yukon a while back, and found that it would be less work to do a sas than move the 3/4 ton ifs framework over. You have to torch off the old bracketry from the half ton, then weld on the 3/4 ton stuff. Sas is less labor intensive.

well i heard b4 that the hubs for a 8 lug will fit on a half ton front axle is this right or are the axle splines diffrent

Everything is different, from the track width to the spline count and even the mounting locations for the axle assembly. Lots of work.
