So now that we have all of the **** of 2014 mostly behind us the next major purchase is probably a pickup for me. The Tracker is long in the tooth and not helpful for yard work.

Most likely it will be a lower mileage, couple or more year old used American fullsize. I'd greatly prefer GM or Ford. Will be 4x4, most likely a V8, and probably an extended or crew cab. I don't want anything fancy so a work truck with AC, cruise, and power windows is fine.

I ask about Fords because my uncle works at a Ford dealership in The Villages, Florida and is tight with the owner. This is a mostly self contained retirement area in the center of Florida. This means I could probably pick up a low mileage off lease or trade in truck that was never used hard, driven by a senior, and has never been in the road salt at a discount.

I told him F-150 or possibly a V-8 Super Duty. I would love a diesel but have NO use for it. So who's got something like what I'm thinking of?

Well, this summer I got a '14 F-150 Eco V6 extended cab. I know you're talking used, not new, but the trucks are pretty similar for the last few years.

I looked at the Super Duty, and they were too much truck for me and rode, well, like a truck. (I didn't mind so much, but the girlfriend did. C'est la vie.)

The F-150 does everything I'd want, rides more like a car, comes in every configuration known to man and can be had with as many/few gadgets as you want. There's a reason why the damn things are the best-selling yada yada.

The Silverado wasn't bad, but kinda made me go "meh". The Ram had too many chrome gewgaws. And Dodges does better with at big ass gas, or bigger ass diesels, when I wanted, relatively speaking, small.

I've only put a coupla thousand miles on it so far, but the F-150 has been stellar, love the truck. I would say if you can get one with the feature set you want where someone else ate the depreciation, you'd have a hell of a truck.

I've got an '07 F250 with the diesel. Way more truck than I need but I was younger and dumber and am into it for way too much money to get rid of it. Anyway I would second the vote for an F150 with the eco-boost if you can. My Bro-in-law has a ccsb with the eco-boost and it will do anything you want it to (except sound like American Muscle). Mileage is better than the V8s but not out of this world. I think he is getting ~17mpg (mountain driving). Strong truck with proven parts.

Have you looked at the Ram 1500 eco-diesel at all? Maybe some more $$$ but 30mpg....

Kinda what I'm hoping for.

He calls me yesterday and says he has a great one, hell of a deal!

Crewcab 4x4 with the King Ranch package...$35,000 his price.:doah:

My uncle apparently wasn't listening on Saturday when we discussed this.

Not a fan of Chrysler products. Always seems like their build quality is lagging behind Ford and GM. My FIL has a '14 Ram 1500 with the Hemi and while it is a nice truck I'm not super impressed with it or it's reliance on fancy tech.
Also the diesels are just far too expensive for what I'm looking for. I want something I can pick up with the "family discount" for less than $20,000.
I LOVE my 06 silverado, but that's probably a little older than you'd prefer to go.
...and also not a Ford.:waytogo:

Honestly I wouldn't buy torsion bar GM ever again anyway. Too many excellent coil sprung front end having trucks out there to deal with that nightmare ever again.
