I got a 2000 s10 with a 8.5 rear with g80, is this gov lock still as crapy as the older ones or has it changed at all??

I have a G80 10 bolt from a '89 C1500 with 245,000 miles that worked great. The G80 in Michelle's '96 Z71 with 117,000 miles works about half the time, but never when I really need it too :(

As far as strength goes they are still the same.
The newer gov locks were changed so they lock up sooner without as much wheel spin as the old units. That puts a lot less stress on the unit. The sudden lock espically with large tires is what killed the older units. Causing the carrirer to crack and/or break things inside.

Bought a supposed 1997 14SF with gov-lock (definitely "newer", its 6 lug and had the wrong spring/shock mounts) and it was broken as well. Teeth broken off of two of the gears.
