Is there a reason anyone knows of that you can't put a 94 truck steering column in a 71 Blazer?
 
Why would you WANT to???

You'll end up with an extra ignition you don't need.

my thoughts exactly.. i ditched my problem prone 87 tilt focker for a non tilt, turn signal only one and couldn't be happier...

OP.... physically it should bolt in fine.. but the harness connector will be different at a minimum... they changed a couple times thru those years, and the later will have way more pinouts obviously with more features...
 
Well I do want a tilt column and newer type of steering wheel so I figured I'd do that and then fill the hole where the stock ignition is in the dash. I know that takes away from the stock value and all but this thing is gonna be far from stock style anyways.
 
You could just get a period-correct tilt column.... it will probably save you money and a ton of frustration in the long run. I bought one for my old 'Burb completely restored with all new parts for around $400 IIRC.

In a tall truck, you'll tend to pull on the steering wheel a lot when you climb in... and the tilt columns wear out in a hurry when you do that. I've never found the fixed column to be an issue, especially when I swapped in a slightly smaller diameter wheel. Visibility to the gauges was always good and it seemed to be a comfortable reach, even on long trips.

Maybe drive the truck for a while to see what you like and don't like about it....then modify things that bug you.

Slow and methodical planning is the key.... "upgrade fever" is easy to catch, and it's expensive to cure. Actually there is no cure.

I'll guarantee that whatever $$$ is possible to spend for Jeep upgrades, you can easily spend more on a 1st Gen. It's 40 years older, so the list of things to do will naturally be longer than a late model project. To date, I've never met a 1st Gen owner who finished their project before the money ran out. :D

Changing out the column to a late model one will also impact the steering shaft ends...they're different. Fixing that may also require a different steering box. All depends on your level of creativity.
