newer truck question 05

Buddy has on 05 ext cab shortbed truck.

6.0 pretty sure its a 4l60 cause its a half ton. T case is I think the auto trac. Has 4x lo hi 2 wd hi, and 4wd auto settings pushbutton trans.

Problem is driving down the road the truck will act like it does into neutral. It has no forward drive. This is in 2wd.

If you shift the truck into 4wd auto, it will clunk back into gear, and I mean clunk. It does not come out of gear in 4wd auto, only in 2wd.

Trans fluid was low, added some, didn't fix it, he didn't have enough time for me to check much of anything else.

Any ideas?

Sounds like your T-case if F-ing up.. Since it is electronically controlled, it runs on a small pin, and it could be getting stuck and not engaging or your gears inside are failing..

These T-cases are a very weak link. They rub through the case with the chain, electronic issues, shifting problems

might have to open up your case and fin out..check the fluid and its color..they take special fluid too

The buttons. I had the exact same issue. The transfer case would go into neutral. Can't be selected, but it is there. It even tried to go into 4 low at 50 mph on its own once. Thats when it had to be fixed. Buttons were change. Never had the issue again.
