Saturday evening I had a black bear circle me and then start walking out on the trail that I came in on. Kinda spooky for a Texas guy but oh well.

Sunday morning at about 8:30 I had a really nice 8 point come in on me on the wrong side. It took a while to get positioned to get a shot on him with my bow. He got within 8 yds and was behind a bush so I went ahead and drew, when he walked out and stopped at 14 yds, I settled the pin and dropped the sting. To bad I did not see the pencil size limb in the way 3 yds in front of him! Arrow went right over his back.

To date that was the biggest buck I had seen in the wild. We are going back week after next so we will see!

I always carry pruners and a pocket saw. I usually can't get turned all the way around and shoots to my far right because off my bow and getting turned into my harness so I originally left 2 of the limbs there for a little concealment. They are gone now!!

Texas I can carry a side arm while bowhunting only because of my CHL. This is only because they passed that law about 3 years ago. I was in Oklahoma on my lease when I saw the bear. I have read there regulations about carrying while archery hunting and they state only under the Oklahoma self defense act which I figured was the conceal and carry so I carry my XD .40 with a 12 round clip and 3 more clips in the back pack. I walked out the other day carrying the the .40 out instead of it being on my back.

I never have thought about it as protection from animals but rather antihunters and those freaking idiots like the chinese man several years ago who killed 4 people from a deer stand. I have had my stand vandelized, sh1t on, blackcats popped under, and stolen by antihunters before so I carry. My uncle approached a couple of quad riders and let them know it was illegal to be riding on the corp land we hunt on and they threatened us about going to the game warden about them. My uncle was on foot at the time but still tried to chase them, he would have whooped both of their arsses but they took off.
