So, I went to replace the cheapo chrome valve covers on my K5 with some really nice short aluminum covers a buddy gave me and for the first time since I have owned the rig took the covers off and found thse nice little gems for rockers. I am a noob at any type of engine works but know that these rockers arn't stock. Can anyone tell me how much of a benefit these are over stock rockers etc or is there not enough info here or in the pic to educate me on what I have? The motor is a SBC 400 from a '79 chevy truck. The prior owner built the motor and from what I gathered he really knew his stuff. He told me when I bought the K5 that he estimated it to have about 400hp. What can you tell me about the rockers, if anything? Also, the nice short aluminum covers didn't fit properly so it looks like I need the tall ones. Thanks fellas.

Nice, Find. Those are roller rockers I cannot tell if they ar 1.5 or 1.6 ratio but eather way score for you. They help the valvetrain to have less friction which means more power for you essintialy.

anytime you lose friction you gain power so that is a great find. I usually advise people against buying them because you dont really see them as a benefit until you get towards the top of your HP limitations anyway. For you though they were free so I say AWESOME! Now you get to enjoy buying valve covers that fit! Go with cast aluminum if you can afford them.

The name escapes me at the moment, but they are one of the cheaper brands. Still better than the stockies though:wink1:

Those look to be ProForm (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=PRO%2D66907&autoview=sku) roller rockers. They are cheap but as long as they don't come apart (doubtful at this stage of the game) are a good thing to have. Like someone already said they are more of a benefit for higher RPM use but nonetheless reduce friction.

Your heads also have aftermarket valve springs and retainers as well.

I say maybe proform, or scorpion. nothing real expensive, maybe $110-150.
i would say they are worth anywhere from 5hp-12hp.
Also, if your dead set on runnin those short valve covers, they have spacers, that just raise them up.
