First thing I saw. The guys in Colo City colorado who make CNC plasma tables have something like those axles. No body on the frame.

They looks like a home brew triple-gear setup....
3 gears would account for the crazy height, and it also means the input and output side of the portal box turn in the same direction. By comparison, a 404 portal is a 2-gear portal..... So when the axleshaft rotates forward, the wheels rotate backward.
