nimak5 Build Thread

diggin' this build...still love the round headlight years the best!

And you really should go crossover now, with a 6" (or more) lift!

Thanks all. Yeah the cross over steering will be the next thing I plan on doing.

Well I'm done here for a few months until I find a good engine/tranny. Special thanks to Mike and Rusty at Hiram 4X4 for their help. Here are more pics of the progress:

The truck looks really good! What are your plans for a motor & trans? does it run / can you drive it now?

Thanks. Yeah she runs and drives great. Drove it about 30 miles today. A lot more smooth with the new bushings and thinner tires. It has a killer exhaust leak though (literally killer) that I didn't care to fix since I would be swapping the motor, but 45 minutes in the truck today made me almost pass out and made me think otherwise. Going to make a trip to Summit hopefully this weekend to pick up some new gaskets.

I think I'm going to go with a 454, th400, 203/205 doubler. Its going to be a while before I find the right one, as did finding the Blazer. Once all that is in, then I'll order some new drive shafts to make it 4 wheel drive again and take it in the mud. I will be sure to keep everyone posted.

Man time yesterday while the wife was out shopping for Easter. She was pleased to come home to this setup...

Spent some time on the engine and learned a lot. Seems to be the original engine block, casting number 3970014 (1970-75/350). Learned a new trick to use the iPhone to take pictures of where my big head won't fit.

Sense of relief when I finished putting on new header/exhaust gaskets, not to mention I can breath now. Engine runs and sounds way better now and will do for the next several months as I scout craigslist for a 454.

What are your plans for the body trim are you gonna reinstall it? Are you gonna put flares in wheel openings? Btw that thing is so awesome looking its evil all black.

Thanks. The body trim was trashed while trimming the fenders, so those are gone. The body will remain as-is for now and don't really have any future plans for it. Focusing more on the guts of the truck right now. Plus this will be an off road only truck when I'm finished with it, so the body will get a good beating in the future.

There is something about 42's that gets me excited :pimp:. This thing is looking really good. I am glad to see you chopping off unecessary body. Too many guys on this site go for show with these things (not dogging any of you guys on this site, all your clean blazers do look really good) but nothing beats a big, nasty, beat-up blazer on big meats that is built to perform. Plus, that's why God invented LMC Truck....so you can buy replacement body panels when you drag yours on a rock :D. Keep it up dude, it's looking good. Have you ever thought about an LS swap instead? It's a relatively simple swap and those motors have plenty of power (both the 5.3's with minor stuff like a different cam, and the 8.1's). Just a thought.

Thanks man. Diggin yours as well. I agree, no reason to pretty up something I know I will roll one day. I've had a lot of people tell me to go with an LS, so I've put the engine swap on hold for now while I think about it. My plans now are to finish the suspension, build a roll cage, then I'll finish up with the engine, transmission, transfer case and drive shafts together.

Updates?? Did I hear something about you looking into 56's for the rear? That is what I am going to be doing really soon. If I remember from that thread you started, K85 Octane gave some good advice. Go with a 4" flip bracket (I have ORD's, you can go with DIY's too, but for the ORD brackets, you just flip the brackets side to side so they are more angled to the rear), then get some 6" shackles (I have DIY's, they are beef!! I like to spread the wealth around between ORD and DIY :D). I have a total of 5" in the front with 52's and ez inches, so I will probably go with some ez inches in the rear too to keep it at 5''.

Nothing to update about really except for some new spark plugs and a new ignition module. Not much of an update though. Yeah, Shackle flip, 56 inch springs and some Bilsteins are my new planned next step, but likely won't happen for a few months. Just saving up some money right now until I can afford to get everything at once. Thanks for the advice. Glad to hear you're doing the same thing with the 56 inch springs. I'll be sure to follow your build.

Even if you don't have any updates, just post more pics because i love the look of this thing. Looks so BAD with 42's lombardi

Picked this tailgate up today for $50. I plan on sanding, priming and painting it tomorrow evening. Then I gotta find some hinges, mounts, etc to make this fit. Didn't realize it would have different mounts and thought it was a bolt on swap.
