I have an 82 K5 that has never had air and I never plan on fixing it to have air. The K5 right now has no pump or pulleys and has the aluminum tubes cut off from the previous owner. My question is this,......... How would I go about removing all of it completely? I'd like to get rid of everything and clean up the firewall and maybe mount an MSD 6A ignition on the firewall and clean it up a bit under the hood. Have any of you ever done this? Is so, please provide a write up or show pictures and how you did it. I don't care about resale value as the next owner will have to buy pretty much everything as it sits right now anyway if they want to have air. I know I will never add air so why not get it all out of the engine bay? Any downside to removing it all if I'll never use it?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I live in Wisconsin so I'll NEED the heater. I just know I'll never sink the money into getting the air operational and would like to eliminate all the stuff and clean up the engine bay.

This is where it gets tough... The a/c box houses the (shared) blower motor and the box for heater only has the hole in the firewall in a different location. This forces you to patch one place, cut another and still end up with a (smaller) box on the firewall.

If you really want it smooth you have to gut it all, patch the firewall and go with an aftermarket heater like a Mohave.

You will have to make a cover for your heat and a/c housing. I cut mine flat and added a cover. Put in a couple screws to hold and sealed up tight from the inside with RTV. Has been working great, and a big bonus you free up ample room to get to plugs and what not.

I'm gonna hafta do this too. What did you make the new "cover" out of? Just sheetmetal or a plastic sheeting or what?
