ok guys this should be easy?when driving my k-5 at night the voltmeter fluctuates and the lights bright and dim.the system is not charging even though i got the alternator tested and put in a new battery.hoping you can help got new flooring for the ol girl now she looses charge

make sure your grounds are good and check the tightness of your belts, IIRC you should have only about 1/4 in of slack in the belts

is your battery running down while your driving to where you have to boost it off to crank? or are your lights just flickering?

Put a multimeter on your battery while your truck is running and verify 13.5-14.5 volts are present and 12.6 after shutdown. This is the easiest way to check alternators and alternator circuits.

The best way to diagnose here would be to respond with more info on the problem and keep up with our troubleshooting opinions.
Not only could we help you but anyone else that may have a similiar problem.

Had the same problem with my Superduty. Lights would go dim and voltage dropped to 8 volts on the gauge. I had replaced both batteries and alternator 6 months prior. Exchanged the alternator (Napa warranty), problem solved. I think the voltage regulator was bad.

my first thought is also to check the battery voltage while running with a multimeter. second thing, grounds, and go from there.
