no cold air

The only thing that comes out of my vents is hot air when I have it set to cold air. Even during the winter, I would turn the nob all the way over to cold, and it wouldn't change the temperature coming out of the vents at all. Now with summer, I want to recharge my A/C, but want to fix this problem first. I am thinking it is a vacuum leak? This is happening on an 87 blazer, 350 tbi.

My first thought is that it's the blend door acutator. I'm not sure if this is mechanically operated on the '87s, but it sounds like the blend (flapper) door is stuck.

I would check my Chilton's manual for you, but it doesn't cover your year.

i'm gonna check if that door is stuck, but isn't it vacuum operated, or is it mechanically operated?

also, i am not a "member" so i can't see that pic jeff

Just click on the link and it will show you the pic (you're not missing much).

Yes, it's vaccuum actuated so when you move the levers around, the blending door will allow warm air in, cool air in or a comination of those. They are on a mechanical, threaded arm.

awesome. so i am guessing until i order and recieve those connectors, that i can manually open/close the flaps? its supposed to be 90 degrees today and tomorrow!
(hot weather+black paint+hot air seeping through vents even with blower off=misery):doah:

You could try that or see if you could wedge the door open or closed....don't remember which. :dunno: You also might need to unfacin(sp?) the threaded rod on top of the box. You should be able to move that back and forth to move the door. I actually think there are two doors in there.

I tried the junkyard for that plastic piece and most of the ones I found were broken or had lame attemps of glueing back together.

Glad to hear that summer finally hit Idaho! My mom said it has been a LONG winter in CDA......

about to give er' a try right now. hopefully i can get those door(s) open/closed one way or the other.:dunno:

yeah, it has definitely been a long winter! up until 2 weeks ago, it was chance for snow. it never made it down into the valley, but up in the mountains definately got a little snow. so much for global warming!!!

As an added mesure, install a bypass valve to your heater core. It will keep the entire plenum box cooler.

Yes air is blowing out of the floor vents. And even when the heater is turned off, i can still feel a little bit of air coming out of them.

OK, odds are it's the plastic link. You will need to remove the glove box. Look from the passenger side under the dash, and you will see part of the vent ducting that is held with two screws, one on each side at the bottom and one screw at the top. This is what takes air to the dash vents. Remove this vent. Then look at the link. It will be obvious if it's broke. DO NOT TRY TO OPEN OR MOVE THE AIR DEFLECTOR OR YOU WILL BREAK IT! Get the link and then come back on this thread and I will be happy to tell you how I replace them. There is a pin that has to be removed and it can be a PITA.

I am having this problem too. I figured you have to remove a lot more than the glove box though. I ordered the plastic piece from Classic just in case. Is this why the defrost doesn't work either? Subscribed. :thumb:

It MAY be part of the defrost problem, but I would bet the defrost problem is a vacuum motor. But you are lucky, is a real pain but that vacuum motor can be replaced without pulling the whole case. I would check the plastic link, then check the vacuum motor.
