This question was in my other post but I thought it might get a better repsonse sepparately. I have a new battery, cap, rotor, and starter. All connections are good and I had no problem until last weekend until changing the cap and rotor. For a couple days I would only get power when I turn the key about 2 out of 20 times. Then it went to sometimes getting power for a second or two if I wiggled the key or locked the steering wheel. Now I have nothing at all. I know the voltage regulator on the alt is bad and I need to replace the alt, I have an ignition switch to try. What else besides the key cylinder could be the problem, coil, ignition module? Please give me some ideas. I am lost as to why it would work fine last week and now nothing.

You mean the ones inline to the starter or isn't there one mounted to the firewall between the distributor and the brake booster?

Okay I checked the links and they all appear good. I replaced the ignition switch, and still no power at all. Could the alternator be the problem?

Probably not. Check the fusable links again. Especially the one on the driver's side near the brake booster.

Okay I'll give 'em another check or just replace them to be shure. What bout the cylinder lock, what are the syptoms when it goes bad?

Just wanted to thank everyone who replied. I finally figured out the problem. After going through everything again I decided to try a different ignition switch and sure enough that was it. The "new" one I had bought didn't work right. So I am starting again thanks to ya'lls patience and help. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I'd be willing to bet that your ignition switch was either not plugged in correctly or not adjusted correctly.

I guess I forgot to mention that but I've noticed it on my own rig before.

Possibly but I tried it several times and could even swap the new one that works and the new one that doesn't and it just didn't work. No big deal really but at least it is running now.
